From getting takeout to shopping online, every time you Shop Small, you're supporting small businesses at the heart of your community. It's always hard to keep a small, locally-based business running, but the Covid-19 era has presented challenges we never dreamed. Now more than ever, community-based businesses need your patronage and shopping dollars. Not just bookstores, of course, but restaurants, bakeries, barbers, pharmacies, clothing stores--any business that's locally-owned, pays local taxes, and invests in a million ways in place where it is located.
The big-box stores and online retail giants are doing just fine. If we want vibrant downtowns in villages and towns, if we want cultural institutions, if we want to have physcal spaces to shop in, spaces with individuality, quirkiness, charm, and unique items, we all have to shop local and shop small. As much as you can, please. Make every day Small Business Saturday.
