What turns on the switch? Where do creative ideas come from? How does an artist or author follow a path from concept to creation? The Book Stall is proud to join Family Action Network for a fascinating conversation between two acclaimed, prolific creatives, Cozbi A. Cabrera and Jason Reynolds, as they explore making, the art of craft, and how the spark of inspiration evolves over time. This event will be recorded and available later on the FAN website and YouTube channel. You can register for this free event HERE.
AFTER-HOURS EVENT: Attendees who purchase a copy of either Cabrera's book Me & Mama or Reynolds' forthcoming graphic novel Long Way Down from The Book Stall are invited to attend an AFTER-HOURS event hosted by the authors. It will start immediately after the webinar.

About the Authors: Trained as an art director, Cozbi A. Cabrera left a successful 15-year career designing album covers for Atlantic Records and Sony Music to “discover, create, and share pockets of grace and beauty” as a multimedia artist. Her work spans a range of media, from handmade cloth dolls (muñecas) created in honor of her Honduran heritage, to writing and illustrating children’s books, to launching a clothing line. Her latest picture book, Me & Mama, is a lyrical ode to the strength of the bond between a mother and a daughter as they spend a rainy day together.
Jason Reynolds is the award-winning New York Times best-selling author of All American Boys, the Track series, For Everyone, and Miles Morales: Spiderman, among others. He writes novels and poetry for young adult and middle-grade audiences, including Ghost, a National Book Award Finalist for Young People's Literature. He is currently serving a two-tear term as the Library of Congress' national ambassador for young people's literature. His latest book is Long Way Down: The Graphic Novel, released on Oct. 13th.
About the Books:
Me & Mama
This celebration of a mother-daughter relationship is perfect for sharing with little ones! "On a rainy day when the house smells like cinnamon and Papa and Luca are still asleep, when the clouds are wearing shadows and the wind paints the window with beads of water, I want to be everywhere Mama is."
"Mother-daughter pairings of swimsuits, flower bouquets, and bicycles are presented in small, bright vignettes on the endpapers of Cabrera's cozy tale, serving as appetizers for the visual feast within. Impressively detailed scenes, from the first spread, which shows the child coming downstairs, to her mama's artfully designed workspace to a later scene of the little girl drifting off to sleep haloed by stars and dreaming of day with her mother, are rendered with visible daubs of acrylic paint...still, the greatest delight is in the images that vibrantly showcase their simple, loving connection. A beautifully illustrated, slice-of-life ode of adoration for doting daughters and marvelous mamas." - Kirkus Reviews
