Celebrate the return of warmer weather by getting out of the house for a free program of live music, thanks to our friends at The Music Institute of Chicago! Guitarists Dave Onderdonk and Matthew Berger will be joined by some of their students for an evening of tunes.
Tap your feet, sing along, or bring your own guitar--this all-ages event is free and open to the public, and participation is welcome!
Matthew Berger has an MA in Guitar Performance & Composition from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He says of his work and his teaching process, "Guitar is my area of expertise (electric, acoustic, bass), and I perform in various genres, including jazz and fusion, pop, hip hop, metal and rock, folk as well as various types of world music. I think of song repertoire as our structure and language, rhythm as our grounding and exercise, and melodies and scales as our expression of feelings."
Dave Onderdonk has played and/or recorded with Michael Feinstein, Kurt Elling (three Grammy nominated albums), Fareed Haque, Terry Callier, Grazyna Auguscik, Fred Simon, Marlene Rosenberg, and The Lakeside Singers. I have also appeared on recordings with Pharoah Sanders, Mavis Staples, Casandra Wilson, Mike Stern, Howard Levy, and Paul Wertico among others. He's a member of the Chicago Jazz Composers Collective, and has been with the Music Institute of Chicago since 2007.
